Konnyaku is made from a kind of potato and has a jelly like appearance when sold in block form, or made as noodles called Shirataki. It is virtually fat free and has zero calories, being made up of water and dietary fibre glucomannan. When ingested, theglucomannan expands in size giving the impression you are full so an excellent food for people on a diet. It then wraps itself round calories, carbohydrates and fats before being flushed out of your body as a fibre since glucomannan is difficult to digest for humans. SERVING SUGGESTION

Konnyaku ribbons

  1. Slice the Konnyaku block lengthways into a large rectangle slice.
  2. Divide further into bite sized rectangles.
  3. Cut a slit in the middle of each piece.
  4. Pass one end through the slit and pull down.
